This course lays out the foundations for therapeutic applications of yoga by integrating structural modalities of yoga with Ayurvedic principles and the energetic teachings of yoga. Our goal is to help yoga teachers gain critical skills to move people forward from where they are towards greater ease and well-being. Ultimately, we are propelling yoga teachers into a place of greater mastery as both practitioners and teachers.

The course is offered in two sections. Therapeutics 1, dealing mostly with physical alignment and adjustment, is offered early in the training. Therapeutics 2 gives an opportunity to integrate material from the many courses, and so is offered near the end of the training.

THERAPEUTICS 1
We begin by revisiting the physical foundations of asana with a deeper look at alignment and adjustment within the postures. We’ll explore how we can safely assist our students - verbally and with hands-on assists - to maximize ease, clarity and stability. We'll look at relationships between the bones, the muscles, and the organs in order to clarify the underlying purpose of alignment principles and further develop the eye. Through partnering we refine our own felt sense of alignment.

THERAPEUTICS 2
We then weave together this attention to physical detail with Ayurvedic principles and the energetic teachings of yoga. Students will prepare for this course with a case study research project. Case studies as well as learning to work 1 on 1 will further support our inquiry. Finally, we include discussion of the more subtle practices of pranayama, meditation, and kriya as a support for therapeutics.
